Early in October 2018, in a joint venture with the local partner RECON Engineering LLP, LIGHTHOUSE has successfully completed the Geophysical and Geotechnical Survey inside the Pearls Project, in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea.

Lead by CMOC – Caspi Meruerty Operating Company – the Consortium between Shell EP Offshore Ventures Limited (55%), KazMunayTeniz OOC JSC (25%) and Oman Pearls Company Limited (20%), the Pearls Project envisages the development of the Khazar and Auezov fields discovered in the north Caspian Sea (also called “the Pearls block”).

The current development plan for the Khazar field foresees a co-development with the adjacent Kalamkas field (operated by NCOC), in order to maximise synergies and contribute to the economic viability of both the Kalamkas and Khazar fields.

THE SURVEY

The geophysical survey consisted of the acquisition of approximately 100 linear kilometres of 2DHR Seismic Data and more than 900 linear kilometres of analogue data (MBES, SSS and SBP).
The geotechnical survey, using CPT and Vibrocorer, involved the collection of samples in 22 locations along the pipeline route, at 5-10 m of depth. Offshore activities have been completed smoothly, within the budget and without any Lost Time Injury (LTI).

The strategic partnership with RECON Engineering LLP has consolidated our role in the area as a leading survey provider in Kazakhstan.
Since 2004, LIGHTHOUSE (formerly G.A.S. Geological Assistance and Services) has established a strong presence in the whole Caspian Area, and has been involved in the most important offshore projects both in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
LIGHTHOUSE have created hubs to provide survey and positioning services for Oil&GAS companies across the Caspian Region: it has an operative office in Atyrau (Kazakhstan) and Baku (Azerbaijan), a fully-equipped warehouse in Aktau and a support base in Bautino for vessel mobilisation.

Saipem, through its subsidiary ERSAI Caspian Contractor LLC, has awarded GAS KCO a contract for the survey and positioning services during the construction of two pipelines of 95 km each in Kazakhstan.

Saipem, through its subsidiary ERSAI Caspian Contractor LLC, has awarded GAS KCO (Kazakh subsidiary of GAS Italy) a contract for the survey and positioning services during the construction of two pipelines of 95 km each. The pipelines will connect D Island in the Caspian Sea to the Karabatan onshore plant in Kazakhstan.
Scope of work includes the provision of personnel and equipment on board the Survey Vessel to carry out pre-lay, as laid and as built survey. More over, it includes the provision of precise positioning on board 4 Construction and Post Trenching Vessels and 14 TUGs.
One of the most challenging services requested by ERSAI is the provision of precise positioning during the pipe string push/pulling operations. This service is essential to monitor the pipe movements and preserve its integrity during the installation. 20 tracking points have been installed by GAS technicians on the buoyancy tanks aligned over 10 km of pipes. Each control point is capable to transmit the pipe position and heading to the laying barge located at 10 km of distance. String push/pulling operation is expected to take approx. to 60 days. Each tracking point is designed to be splash proof and self-powered using batteries and solar panels. The differential signal is broadcasted by means of TDMA techniques; the pipe movements are collected from the C12 pipe lay barge during push/pulling operations.
As usual, this service has been provided by GAS according to schedule, under strict guidelines on safety and result accuracy – a trademark of GAS throughout is 30 years of activity in the Oil&Gas business.
