ISO 14001:2004 is a family of standards related to environmental management that exists to help organizations to minimize how their operations (processes, etc.) negatively affect the environment, but also to comply with applicable laws, regulations, and other environmentally oriented requirements. The benefits of using ISO 14001:2004 can include a reduced cost of waste management; savings in consumption of energy and materials; a lower distribution costs; an improved corporate image among regulators, customers and the public.
